Independent thinking can be described as having the confidence to draw on your own innate intelligence and depend on your own judgment, having your own views and values to guide you rather than someone else's (Pollock, 2019). Most of the truly great teams we've studied have at least one member who could be described as an independent thinker. These types of people don't need much encouragement to share their views. Hence, an independent thinker can be a team player. These people will help bring diverse views to the table and ensure that the team can choose the most feasible solutions and decisions that will ensure those team goals are achieved.
